Abstract
Chloramphenicol and prednisolone are used in the treatment of chronic otitis media as aural drops, containing 10 mg. of chloramphenicol and 5 mg. of prednisolone in 1 cc.
Twice a day the car under treatment was filled with 0.5cc. of aural drops for 15 minutes. 25 patients, including 5 cases who failed to stop discharge after radical mastoidectomy were treated by this means. Cure was effected in 8 cases (32%), improvement of symptoms in 13 cases (52%) and no effect in 4 cases (16%).
However in 84% of the total number of cases there were a cure or an improvement of symptoms.
In after-treatment of operated cases and some cases of chronic otitis media, the use of this agent appeared to have caused either decrease or disappearance of unwanted granulation tissues.
There was no side-effect locally or generally by use of this agent excepting complaint of slight itching sensation in ear cannel during ear bathing in 2 cases.
